In my Master’s thesis, I developed a cloud-optimized data format for CityJSON, enabling efficient partial access to large datasets through spatial indexing, attribute indexing, and HTTP range requests. For my PhD research, I will focus on methodologies for 3D city model reconstruction using heterogeneous datasets and on developing environments that facilitate the integration and use of reconstructed models in real-world applications.

“FlatCityBuf: a new cloud-optimised CityJSON format”
This research introduces FlatCityBuf, a FlatBuffers-based binary format for CityJSON optimized for cloud-native use. It enables fast, partial access to 3D city models with spatial indexing and reduced file size. Benchmarks show improved performance over CityJSONSeq, including encoding the entire Netherlands into a single 70GB file. FlatCityBuf supports scalable, efficient 3D data use in urban planning and smart city applications.
